Mukono Rises for Health: Lions Club Leads Inspiring Diabetes Awareness Campaign

On 15th November 2025, the spirit of community, compassion, and health took center stage as the Lions Club of Mukono Host, together with the Church of Uganda – Namirembe Diocese, Mukono, organized a vibrant and impactful Diabetes Awareness Campaign across several Mukono community areas. With diabetes steadily rising as a major health concern in Uganda, the collaboration aimed to educate, screen, and empower residents with knowledge that can save lives.

A Day of Purpose and Action

The campaign kicked off with an energetic charity run, bringing together club members, church leaders, youth, families, and health advocates. Participants proudly wore diabetes awareness bands to symbolize unity in the fight against the disease. This run was not just about fitness—it was a moving message of hope and awareness across the Mukono community.

As the runners made their way through different areas, the team continued to share key messages about diabetes prevention, early warning signs, and long-term management. The journey eventually culminated at the Namirembe Church premises under the Namirembe Diocese (Mukono), where the final outreach activities took place.

Health Services That Touched Many Lives

Beyond the run, the Lions Club of Mukono Host and the Church of Uganda partners offered a range of essential health services to ensure the community received practical support—not just information.

💉 Blood Donation Drive

A dedicated blood donation station allowed Lions and community members to donate blood to support the national blood bank. Their kindness will help save lives in hospitals that continue to face shortages.

🩺 Diabetes Screening & Education

Health volunteers carried out free diabetes screenings, giving residents a clear understanding of their blood sugar levels. Participants also received practical advice on healthy eating, exercise, and early detection—key tools for preventing serious complications.

👓 Vision Screening & Free Reading Glasses

Because eye problems are common among diabetic patients, the team provided free vision screening. Many beneficiaries also received free reading glasses, greatly improving their day-to-day wellbeing.

Building a Healthier Mukono—Together

The campaign included training sessions for club members, ensuring Lions have the knowledge and confidence to continue spreading diabetes awareness in their communities long after this event.

Throughout the day, both the Lions Club and the Church of Uganda emphasized a shared message: Health is a community responsibility. By learning, participating, and supporting one another, residents can reduce the risks of diabetes and live healthier lives.

A Promise for the Future

The Lions Club of Mukono Host, in partnership with the Church of Uganda – Namirembe Diocese, Mukono, has reaffirmed its commitment to serving the community through impactful health initiatives. This campaign was more than an event—it was a movement of care, education, and hope.

As the partnership continues, Mukono residents can look forward to more programs designed to uplift, empower, and protect their wellbeing.
